Cape Town: Surveyor-General Office

CapeScan Project (1998 - 1999)

This project focused on the scanning of all diagrams, general plans and sectional title plans as digital images into the database. This office previously used aperture card scanning techniques to scan the microfiche films within the office, but it was found that the back-processing of these images was too time-consuming. The Cape Town office thus decided to scan all images using A3/A4 scanners and an A4 scanner.

The project officially started in September 1998 and ended in February 1999.

This project employed nine contractors and four Surveyor General personnel.

The total project time for this project was 6 months.
